I would assume that Nissan put the oil/grease there for the rubber
grommet to seal with so that no water would get in the housing of the
light. This would also explain why you might be blowing your bulbs up.
Try to be a little more careful, or wipe the oil from the housing, slip
the new bulb in almost all the way, and then put some back on just
before you seal it up.
