Any thoughts on this? > Chris: I've got a 97 GLE with an automatic transmission also, so I guess there's 2 losers on the list.(LOL) I change my transmission oil right around every 30,000 miles (that's when my owner manual says to do) and use Mobil synth, I take it to the dealership because they have a machine that will remove all the transmission oil including the tork converter. If I remember right it costs around $70.00 or $75.00 for the Mobil synth. automatic transmission fluid I think it takes about 11 quarts for the hole system and I think the dealership charges me around $75.00 to do the fluid change using there machine. About 2 or 3 thousand miles ago I added an automatic transmission oil cooler and for some reason it has made the shifts crisper/sharper and a lot more firm, the only reason I can think of is that the oil is cooler. I have a buddy who build up a 55 chev for his wife and it also has an automatic transmission and after he added an automatic transmission oil cooler to it he noticed the same thing, so I'm guessing it must be do to the cooler oil in the automatic transmission. As to your clunking noise I've never had that happen to me but this is just a thought have you checked out your motor and transmission mounts? Maybe you might have a lose mount? It may not be broken, just lose and its been hanging in there sents you got the car. Ron
