Is it possible this could be valve stem seals? I had a similar problem with an 86 Maxima. After it sat overnight, it would smoke for a minute or two when I first started it, but after running 5 minutes, it stopped. I figured the seals were allowing oil to slowly leak into a cylinder thru the night and then when it was started up in the morning, the smoke was from the oil burning off. It did occasionally use a quart of oil (about every 1500-2000 miles), but with around 200k miles, I didn't complain. > >i'm having a blue smoke (first ten minutes from engine start).....what > >could > >be the problem? >Sounds like you are gettting blow-by at startup. The pistons/piston rings >have to get hot and expand before you get a good piston-to-cylinder wall >seal, so until that happens, oil is getting sucked into the cylinder and >burned, thus the blue smoke. Now, the oil could some get from the crankcase >directly into the cylinders (I think), but from what I know about this >stuff, the more likely scenario is that the blow-by from the cylinders is >pressurizing your crankcase and forcing oil into your intake tract through >the PCV/fresh air inlet. My car has had similar problems, which I believe I >have solved. If you want more details let me know. > >JWolfe _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
