If you have loud clacking noise, then replacing the vc boots is not the answer. The noise means that your axle(s) are bad. I just got mine replaced. I have a 91 xe with 140k miles. I got a good deal from my mechanic for 125 for one side. I got an estimite for 250 for one side so expect to pay between these for each side. The way I noticed that my engine mounts were bad, evertime I would downshift into second, or go in reverse, the engine would shift and hit against the rack and pinion and make a noise. I got an estimate from the dealer to replace the mounts, and they said 600! I went to my mechanic and got it done for 375.
