Judging from how Nissan has handled the SR20 over the years, it would not
surprise me if they emasculated the GA16 some as well. I never understood
why Datsun/Nissan does this--they introduce a great car and then slowly make
it suck. They have done that in a big way to the SR20, lowering the redline,
choking off the exhaust, changing the head to a less flow-happy design, etc.
I understand they made these changes to help meet emissions standards, but
rather than just neuter the engine, it seems like it would have been worth
their while to do some real engineering and make it a cleaner engine while
retaining all its power. Instead of doing the latter, they just slapped more
emissions plumbing on, did some half-ass hacking and voila! An EPA-approved
engine...yuck.
