I can actually attest to this. At the last track event I attended (Open Track
@ Buttonwillow Raceway, September 30th), I got my ass handed to me by a '99
Civic DX hatchback. His only mods were suspension components (no engine mods!)
Of course, this was a hot lapping event, so there was no wheel to wheel racing
involved. This was only my third lapping event (second event driving my own
car.) The Civic DX driver has been lapping for several years. Scary thing was
that he passed me so fast, before I even got the chance to point him by; and
this was at the beginning of the front straight. Apparently, I broke a bit too
much and too early on the last corner before the straight. He broke pretty
late and carried more momentum through the corner, and probably took a better
line than I did. I probably had a good 50hp advantage over him, and my
suspension components aren't too shabby.

1998 200SX SE-R (with goodies)
1989 CRX Si (embarrassingly stock)

P.S. Just to add to how good this driver was, he pulled a 2:17 in a slushbox
G20 (stock suspension, street tires, some bolt-on's.) I pulled a 2:26, and I
have all the bolt-on's sans ECU, race pads, and race tires . Not sure what his
best time was on his DX. =(
