You might want to also check your MAF. I know I had a problem with my car
stalling whenever I slowed down. Water had gotten into the MAF and when I
would brake, the water would slosh forward and hit the circuit board,
causing the car to sputter and die. My car also had a massive amount of
black deposits on the plugs(which I had just replaced a week before). I
don't think the check engine light came on, but the ECU did throw a code
when I checked it. The car ran perfect at full throttle, since the MAF was
giving max fuel at all times. This maybe a long shot, but its not that hard
to check. If there is any condensation in it, dry it out with a hair dryer
and seak it with some silicone.

i exactly have the same problem right now! This is on a ga16de 1995. I
already replaced the spark plugs but it hasn't solved the problem. The
spark plugs always gets filled with black deposits. Plug wires and dist.
cap are also ok. I already removed the throttle body and cleaned the entire
system including the acvalve, etc. I'm suspecting its the ac valve which is
not bringing enough air during idle especially with the a/c on.
