The problem is this.
If you step on the gas and it sputters and gives out at full throttle
and when you let off the gas it still runs. The plugs show total black
carbon on th insulators and electrodes. All plugs look the same sooty black.

The coil is the main problem. It is weak and ready to go.
Replace with a factory unit or aftermarket. I recommend the factory. This
happened to me last year and it wa the coil. To check it do this:
                1. remove all the wires from the motor, so it won't start.
                2. take the #1 plug wire still attached to the distributor
and put a good plug into the end of it until it snaps into
the groove.
                3. Now, take the plug end that sparks and touch it onto a
good piece of engine exposed like the something near the
valve cover. Crank the motor over and you will either see
a good strong blue spark or a very weak spark that is barely
noticeable.
this is a good check for the coil and will tell you if its good or
bad.
