You don't have to be a M.E. to understand the physics, thermodynamics, etc 
of a automobile. It just helps a little, and certainly doesnt relplace the 
hands on experience of a "shade tree" mecbanic. I'll have a B.S.E. in 
Mechanical Engineering in 3 semesters. I'm not one yet, but the reason i 
chose this major was that i enjoyed working on cars in the first place. 
True, many on this list are young, and so am i, (only 21) but that doesn't 
mean we don't have experience. My first car was a 91 sentra XE and i took 
that thing apart so many times i cant even begin to count. This gave me a 
ton of experience and i can spin some wrenches with the best of em. Every 
time you improve your car or fix something thats broken, you learn something 
new, and whatever that is, benefits everyone else on the list.
