Sents you said in your post you had smoke coming from your fuse box and
around your gear shift lever, I'm going to JUST take a guess and say it might
be some type of an electrical problem, when a fuse burns out there is not any
smoke. Do other elect. things in your car still work like the dome light,
head lights, turn signals, radio???It's really kind of hard to give you a
answer to your problem, when something like you've posted comes up. Sents you
say it just stopped running, it could be any number of things, what else
happened to make you think it could be a axle?. When was the last time you
had the timing belt on the engine changed? Was the engine over heating, that
can look like smoke also. Basing my reply on the post of smoke coming from
around the fuse box, I'll guess something might of have shorted out for some
reason and caused the elect wiring to maybe be the cause of your problem.
When you write back please be as detailed as you can as to what happened just
before the car quit running and what happened afterwards and maybe I can be
of better help to you.
