Hi

The '87 Pulsar NX "motorhome":) (e16i, manual transmission) has a problem.

I was on a trip about 100 miles from home when the car starting hesitating
after taking off from stops. I got it home ok. The next day I drove it about
5 miles, shut it off then came back about 5 minutes later. STALL!
I pushed it home. Changed fuel filter. Same problem. Changed the fuel pump
with a $30 one from the junkyard. It ran fine for a little while and had the
fuel pressure checked but they said it was low (about 14 psi, the guy said).
Unless it's my imagination, I think I can feel the hesitations coming back.

Anyway, I've bought a new fuel pump (ac/delco, $79 at Kragan's, which
compares to others they have for like $269-don't know the brand) and I'll
put it in there but I was also thinking about possibly putting in a new fuel
injector and this is where my questions come in.

The guy who did the test said there was no way to test the injector, and I
have seen the same thing said on another site, not while it's in the car,
anyway. But I have read several sites that say they can test and "clean"
these injectors and bring them back to the way they performed when new, all
for about 20/25 bucks. Now that sounded pretty good, compared to the prices
people have quoted for injectors. I read on one site where someone paid
about $50. But I called one place who said they had one "with the clip it
comes in" (as he said) for $399!!!!! (Does anyone know what he's talking
about what this "clip" is?).

Anyway, I was wondering:
1) If looking into this injector would be a good thing to do and may be
helpful in my situation (my car has 160,000 miles on it which I imagine
could cause some clog)
2) anyone has had this work done on their injectors and if they would
recommend or it not.
3) does anyone else have any other ideas?

If there is much truth to doing this, it sounds like you get an awful lot
for a little money.

Now a question about removal/installation of the injector if I go this rout.

I went to the junkyard and tried to remove one. What I found was a rubber or
plastic plug sticking up with two small metal prongs sticking up out of it.
I found I could twist it with a pair of pliers, but I couldn't pull it out
or even make it budge when trying to pull it straight out. I didn't pull
REAL hard because I noticed that the plug I was pulling on seemed to start
distorting a bit with more pressure applied, which I didn't want to do. Also
I noticed the prongs were extremely easy to damage, which I didn't do.
Can someone tell me if I was doing this right? Was there something I wasn't
doing right? Do you just have to pull the living $%^& out of to get it out?
How do you do it without damaging it? Is there any trick to this, and is
there anything I should know about reinstalling it?

Need to make that ol' motorhome go like heck again, 'cept I'm not the
world's greatest mechanic as you probably learned many words ago!
