That stanza has the KA24E right? the Altima has the DE. Anyhow, my KA24E
trucks chain was loose and it was the chain guides. Nissan used plastic
guides and they loosen up and in time when it started hot, you could here a
flapping sound before the guides and tensioner tightened the chain good. My
uncle said that Nissan switched over to a better design, but you have to get
the factory replacement for this. Get the new chain, guides and tensioner
from Nissan. I know this is the problem and its due to the engine having
more miles on it, the chains are good for about 90,000. You risk it after
that.
