I have a '91 Sentra XE , 140k miles and I am still on the original fuel and
water pumps.

However I have replaced all of the following, out of necessity:

Steering rack.
Front and rear struts.
Front (right) strut mount.
Clutch disk, pressure plate and TO bearing.
Right and left drive axles.

So far I am on the original timing chain, brake rotors, radiator, etc. Just
had the car in the shop to fix multiple fluid leaks (front seal, multiple
transaxle leaks, power steering leaks) and they said the car is still solid
and the fuel injectors are still going strong. Not what I expected given
that my Volvo injectors kicked the bucket before 100k miles. Also I went
through several Volvo fuel pumps before I even got CLOSE to 140k miles. And
the front suspension needed all new bushings before I got even to 130k
miles. So in my limited experience Nissans are more reliable and cheaper to
maintain than Volvos.

Not sure when I need to replace the timing chain. Hopefully I can wait
until I need an engine rebuild.

Dave

Subject: SML: Fuel and Water pump questions

Say, I know we have a few people on the list who work in Nissan Dealerships
and was wondering if they could check and answer this question for me. What
does Nissan say about how long a fuel pump and water pump is good for? About

how many miles or years are they good for before you can expect to start
having problems with them? I'm not having any problems with either one but I

like to change out parts before they start giving me problems, besides it
less expensive to do my own work here at home. The car in question is a 97
Sentra GLE with a little over 126,000 miles on it and I like to keep it well

maintained and try and stop a problem before it happens.
Thanks In Advance
Ron
