SML: About Engine Oil

Hi

I�m have many doubts about the oil i�m using. Right now my car has the Castrol Syntec 
5W-50, but I don�t know what 5W-50 mean? I Think is something about the temperature. 
Should I use a different one?

Here we have a temperature around 34�C +/- 5
