FIGHT the ticket. The same thing happened to me in Cal and I fought it,
because there was nowhere to test the sound. And unless the cop tested it
there on the spot, you have a good chance of winning the case. Just look at
the Cal. Mot. Veh. Code and print out the stuff about the sound testing
procedures and then call the CHP or your local police dept. 99% of the time
they don't have the equipment to test it and don't know where it can be done.
I called the CHP, local police dept., sherriff dept., AAA, HQ for the CHP,
the Cal Bureau of Consumer Affiiars, and the CARB office. None of them had a
clue on where it could be done in Northern Cal. The best thing to do is
print out the law and the other Section it refers you to about the hight of
the microphone and what can be around. Go to court and be vewry courtious
and sound like you have done the research, and you should be able to get it
dismissed. If the judge asks you to plead guilty or innocent, plead guilty.
He should then give you a chance to explain some circumstances. Thants when
you lay it on him. Best of luck.
