Nope! Its common with most any modern fuel injected with a fair amount of
miles on it. Here why....
If your throttle body was clean and you held it up to a light source you
would see a thin sliver of light coming through because there is a little
bit of clearance there to let air through to maintain the idle. That small
bit of clerance is gone because of carbon build-up over time.
When you come to a stop and fully close the throttle you choke off the air
to the motor and the motor tries to stall. The ECU gets this info through
its various sensors and says "Oh shit! the motor is gonna die!" and tries to
compensate by opening up one of the idle management valves. So then the ECU
overcompensates and the revs go up too much. The idle management valve is
then closed because the ECU knows the idle is now too high. So this might
happen a few times before the ECU gets it right and the motor goes back to a
steady tick over while you at stop.
All you really need is a few basic tools and a can of carb cleaner plus a
rag to clean off the carbon. Borrow a tooth brush from your significant
other while you are at it and give the TB a good scrub down after you doused
it with carb cleaner. A word of warning though, I was doing this one day
with one of those long thin red straws that come with WD-40 and the carb
cleaner I had bought. As I was shooting the carb cleaner onto the valve the
red straw shot off and disappeared into the intake manifold. I spent 4 hours
fishing it out with a hook I made with a wire and a 40 minutes job turned
into a nitemare. Lesson learned? I NEVER use that stupid red straw anymore.
