Do you have any idea exactly where the noise is coming from? Sounds like
you could have a bad wheel bearing. Check it out. If you have spun the
bearing race you will need a new hub, which is not that bad used.
Otherwise, as someone already said, it could be the ball joint. Best thing
you can do is take the whole schmeer apart, remove the strut and see if
there's any play or grinding when you manually move the ball joint around.
It's probably best to undo the spindle nut and pull the drive axle out of
the hub first. Then you can also inspect the wheel bearing and see if it's
ok. This same thing happened to me and it turned out after a lot of crap
that it was the wheel bearing, and NOT the ball joint, the control arm
bushings, or the shock mount (although the shock mount WAS toast and on its
way to becoming noisy, the real problem was in the wheel bearing).

My lower drivers side control arm is starting to make this herrendous noise
where it meets the wheel hub. It happens when ever i'm speeding up and
slowing down at slow speeds. I was gunna try and grease it up, but what the
fuck, theres no grease fittings, who's bright idea was this!!! Oh well, I
guess my question is how hard is it to change the lower control arm. I
wouldn't mind having someone do it but money is kinda tight now and I just
had the water pump replaced and that ate up 200 bucks, so any advise would
be helpful.
