I think you can get away with zero retard, but retard the spark 6 degrees the first time you sqeeze, check the plugs and look for signs of detonation, listhen for detonation, then advance the timing 2 degrees at a time, checking after each run. If you hear any signs of detonation or the plugs show it, then stop right away and back off two degrees. Be sure your bottle is really full when you are tuning. Detonation on plugs looks like specks of pepper on the center porcelen.
