Well, I don't really see it as being divided. There's no reason for anyone
to limit themselves to just one of the mailing lists. Theoretically the
overall number of emails will remain the same, so anyone interested in both
topics (performance & non-performance) can subscribe to both. People with
email filtering software can filter on the "SML" in the subject and put all
the messages from both mailing lists into one folder. Then replies will be
sent to the appropriate list.
The advantage to two mailing lists is anyone interested in just performance
or just non-performance can limit themselves to just that one topic. There
have already been at least a dozen people who have left this list for just
the performance list. Overall there are already 45 people who have
subscribed, so I know there was a demand for a performance list.
Both lists will be sharing the same archives too.
