To the person who wanted to know about putting the intake camshaft from a carburetor Sentra into a fuel injected one... I assume you are talking about the GA16DS and GA16DE! Here's my understanding of the situation: GA16DE fuel injected cars have a lower lift to improve emissions Early GA16DS carburetted cars (standard carburetor, no ECU and no catalytic convertor) have a higher lift because they have looser emissions standards. Hence the peak power output of these engines are about the same as the fuel injected cars. GA16DS carburetted cars with feedback (computer controlled) carburetor, ECU and catalytic convertor have different camshafts to improve emissions (for markets such as the U.K.). In trying to meet new emission standards at the time, power output was severely reduced. These cars have a peak power output of about 95 hp! Are the intake camshafts between the GA16DE and GA16DS interchangeable? I doubt it. The GA16DE has VTC, Variable Timing Control on the intake camshaft. This is a hydraulic device which advances the intake camshaft timing at low RPM. This helps draw additional fuel into the cylinders at low RPM, enhancing low end torque. At a certain RPM the VTC advances the intake camshaft timing, optimising the engine for high rpm operation, and increasing power in the process. This feature by itself gives the GA16DE fuel injected engines a broader spread of torque than the GA16DS, and more than compensates for the higher lift of the carburetted cars. Having driven cars using both engines, I can say for a fact that the GA16DE feels a lot more torquey at all RPMs, and lurches off the line more purposely than the GA16DS. Driving up hills also exaggerates the DE's greater low end torque. Now I'm no expert on this, so maybe someone will correct me. I do not know how the VTC is physically attached to the intake camshaft. I think even the timing chain setup on the GA16DS is different than the GA16DE - I believe the DE has 2 chains whereas the DS has one. Could the VTC be bolted onto the GA16DS intake camshaft and reinstalled? And would it all be timed properly? Don't know!
