I had the exact same problem on a 87 sentra I used to have all I did was reset the computer and the problem went away.  The reset button is on the passenger side under the dash.  It is on a brass colored little box.  Just press the button in a couple of times and go for a test drive.  Hope this helps.

I recently took my '87 Sentra in for an opinion on what might be wrong with her, but they basically told me what I already knew.  I would just like to see if anyone has any suggestions for me, maybe tell me something I have not thought of.  She will run and idle fine about 40% of the time.  More often than not she will sputter while in 4th gear (it's a five speed manual.) It is possible to keep her going by pumping the accelerator, but often she will just die w/o much of a warning.  It is as though she is not getting enough fuel.  My next task this weekend is replacing the EGR system.  She has a new O2 sensor, fuel filter, distributor cap, and new spark plugs.  Her clutch is slipping quite badly and I am planning on replacing it, as well as a much needed new radiator.      Any opinions, questions, comments, complaints will be much appreciated.  Thanks.
