Here is a little oil change story. I do not change my oil every 300 miles.
I believe that is an industry tactic to get more money out of consumers. I
use Mobil 1 synthetic and I change my oil about every 5000-6000 miles. I
have been doing this for about 5 years now and I have not had one single
problem with my engine. However, I recently drove my 93 XE with 157K to
Texas from NY and back. I probably put about 4000 miles on it total. I did
not have the time or money to get my oil changed right after the trip so I
didn't change it until it had about 7000 miles on it. I noticed that the
car started a little rough and my air conditioner would cut off if I put it
on the number 4 setting. (why does it do that?) But otherwise, the car
ran awesome. Now, I'm not saying to change your oil every 8000 miles, but
I think that every 3000 is overkill and too expensive. I would highly
recommend Mobil 1 synthetic to anyone looking for good motor oil. I think
it is a testiment to Nissan engineering that my car, which is 8 years old
and had 157k could make such a long trip and then be driven about 7000
miles with no oil change. I swear I'm going to drive this car until it has
over 300K or until I can afford the new SE-R.
