One thing that we set to prevent the BPA from firing was if a lactate level was
done <8 hours (are considering changing it to a shorter time period due to
bundle repeat lactate), our rational being if they are doing a lactate level
then we hope they are considering whether patient is septic or not.

Subject: Re: [Sepsis Groups] Sepsis EMR Notification (Barnes-Daly, Mary Ann)

We implemented this in EPIC and had to pull it back because the BPA was firing
on such a large group of patients that the nurses were becoming inundated with
BPA's and it was affecting their work flow. We are looking at
re-implementation in select units (med-surg) to see if we can have a better
response to the alert. Since most of the patients in ICU and Telemetry met the
criteria it was launching every time the nurses logged in on those patients.
