We only use oral, rectal or invasive temperature measurement (e.g. urinary catheter with temperature probe) for temperature measurement. ENA published a CPG in 2011 regarding temperature measurement methods and the data at the time did not support temporal measurement reliability. Full disclosure, I was a co-author. Here is the link. https://www.ena.org/practice-research/research/CPG/Documents/TemperatureMeasurementCPG.pdf It should be up for review this year to determine if any data has changed. The temporal measurements are very appealing but as with the digital ear thermometers- correct use and consistency with the required technique has high opportunity for failure. Jennifer

I would be very, very interested to hear how others are handling the source of a temperature (oral, rectal, core, temporal, etc.) and how that factors into a positive screen? Additionally, if you are able to share any supporting literature I would greatly appreciate it! The PDF is attached with a "click here to register" button that worked when I tried it from my computer. Here is the url, as well: https://cc.readytalk.com/cc/s/registrations/new?cid=kcphzfae3k8n Dr. Sean Townsend will be leading the discussion along with Dr. Lemeneh Tefera, Medical Officer at CMS.
