Hi Everyone, The abstractors that I've been working with have posed a question that I thought you might be able to resolve for me. On page1-337 of the alpha data dictionary it states that all of the criteria must be met within 6hrs of each other to find the 'time zero' for severe sepsis. On page 1-338 the bullet says that lab values used in determining organ dysfunction must have been reported within the 6 hours 'preceding' onset of severe sepsis. Does this mean that the organ dysfunction labs have to be timed prior to the other items or are we reading too much into this? Clinically as long as they are all present within 6 hours it should count, right?
Thanks! -- Amy Lucas MSN, RN, CCNS, CCRN Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Roanoke Virginia
