I have a question for those of you who use Midas for abstraction.
I have two questions in Midas referring to antibiotics:
1. Broad spectrum or other abx administration
Definition: Documentation of administration of a broad spectrum or other
antibiotic intravenously in the time window 24 hours prior to or 3 hours
following the presentation of severe sepsis ( no selection mentioned)
2. Broad spectrum or other abx administration selection
Definition: The selection of the intravenous (IV) antibiotic
administered within 3 hours following the presentation of severe sepsis.
Suggested Data Collection Question: Was the intravenous (IV)
antibiotic administered
My question is why is ABX selection only counted in the ABX that were received
within 3 hours of presentation? Our ED usually treats before the documentation
of a "source" so my presentation time is usually after the ABX have been given
so I have to check "no" to question #2. I sent a question to Qnet but they
confused me more. Any help with this is appreciated.
