In regards to CMS integrating sepsis 3 criteria into the NQF sep 1 bundle, I 
asked a related question. 

He stated that the sepsis definition in the article although paralleled the 
sepsis three definition the criteria (sofa) had not been evaluated as it was 
published just as the surviving sepsis campaign article was.

I will correspond with my contact at CMS and ask that very question as it does 
appear that academia is moving towards sepsis 3, especially as there was an 
affirmative European prospective study published in JAMA in February 2017 which 
revealed that qsofa was more predictive of adverse outcomes in infected 
patients than was sirs in non-ICU patients
