Hi, When CMS redid the algorithim-specifications in July they made an error with the algorithm so that Lactate comes before Antibiotics. I brought this to their attention in the fall and they have yet to make that change even though it is still in the measure definitions that these patients are supposed to be excluded. They are not excluded until a lactate is drawn.. if one isn't drawn it is an outlier.

We use Comparion to abstract our data. The abstracting tool requires entry of the initial collection of the lactic acid before the antibiotics, if the patient did not have a lactic acid collected 6 hrs before of 3 hrs after the severe sepsis presentation, the pt fails the measure instead of being excluded. Please let me know what you all think of this. It is truly affecting our numbers. Linda G.
