Amy, We use EPIC as well and SOFT lab systems. But you are able to reflex another lactic acid order off of the original order. You cannot reflex off the value. We are reordering another lactic acid at 3 hours after the original order. It’s a panel order and the nurse will order both when he/ she orders the initial one. So regardless of the initial lactic acid, the patient will get two.
This has been successful with the repeat lactic acid. And we chose to do 3 hours just in case our lab is slow getting there. Our facility uses EPIC as our EMR, and we have not been able to work out a reflex option on our EPIC side or our lab side. Are there any EPIC users out there they may can give some insight into how to improve compliance with repeating lactic acid levels when elevated? Thanks.
