If you can show me a database that can do reasonable queries on a hierarchy, I'll agree with you. A tree-based structure is one of the relational models' boon. Duh, that's common knowledge. But, to seriously think that you can use a relational database like this.. Thing -> relates_to <- Thing ...is absolute folly. Nice, succinct post by the way.
