adapter: 'jdbc/mysql' is incorrect.  JDBC connections should always use the 
JDBC URL (see 
http://sequel.jeremyevans.net/rdoc/files/doc/opening_databases_rdoc.html#label-jdbc+).
 
You should also be assigning the connection to a constant (or something):

  DB = Sequel.connect('jdbc:mysql://dscheider@localhost/pelicans')
