BLOB handling in HSQL-based recovery logs

We are unclear about the behavior of HSQL-based recovery log when handling
requests involving BLOBs. This has not been sufficiently tested.
In particular, we perform SELECT request on tables which contain BLOBs, which
is not recommended, see:
http://www.hsqldb.org/doc/guide/ch02.html#N1047A (Storage and Handling of Java
Objects)
This has prevented proper transaction clean-up after failure, the
ControllerFailureCleanupThread blocked while cheking if a BEGIN had been logged
for a given transaction.
