We are also searching for a safer and controlled way to stop the
controller process rather than just killing the process. Can you
please send us the complete shutdown script if you have one at hand.

Be careful that controllers should be restarted in the reverse order
they were stop. For example, if you stop controller1 then controller2,
then you have to first restart controller2 and then controller1.
Otherwise backend information will be wiped out if the last stopped
controller (most recent info) is not restarted first.
