Do you know by any chance are those acknowledgment messages sent
through UDP even if we use TCP stack in JGroups? That would be kind of
surprising...
By looking at the code in org.jgroups.protocols.UNICAST, JGroups will
use the transport that has been defined (UDP or TCP) in the stack. It
looks like UNICAST (at least in 2.6.5) is not only used for ACKs but
also for messages sent to only 1 member. However, the destination
address is taken from GMS which is likely to be different from the
multicast address.
I am not sure that UNICAST is necessary with TCP but it seems to be
there by default in the JGroups config files. It seems useless to have
rebuild a reliable unicast on top of TCP but there might be some other
undocumented side effect.
All further insight on the issue is welcome!
