Please excuse my ignorance. In a nutshell I am looking for a high
availability solution for postgres. Ideally I would have one primary
database, one failover database (which ideally could be used for read only
access for reporting and such) and one database at a remote location in
case something happened to the primary datacenter.

Ideally the failover in the primary datacenter would be automatic (with
alerting and monitoring) but the failover to the second database doesn't
have to be.

Ideally it would be pretty easy and efficient to fail back to the primary
once the problem with the primary has been solved.

Ideally this would allow me to upgrade the databases withouth downtime.
