Kosovo President Secret Visit To United States

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci is continuing his tour outside Kosovo. But half
of this trip turns out to be secret. Initially Thaci travelled to London when
he promoted an autobiographic book. After his visit to London he went to Paris
when he met French President Emanuel Macron and decorated former president of
France Nicolas Sarkozy, and former foreign minister Bernard Kouchner.

The president of the People’s Party in Serbia, Vuk Jeremic, said recently that
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has been in “secret talks with Kosovo
leaders, Hashim Thaci and Ramush Haradinaj” while trying to buy extra time for
himself and his coalition partners in Pristina. Jeremic said that Vucic has
travelled to the U.S. to continue secret negotiations with Thaci.

Gazeta Express has learned that Thaci is already in the U.S. but remains
unknown whether he met Serbian President Vucic or any of the U.S. officials
there. Media in Belgrade have reported that Serbian President has met the U.S.
officials and called his visit “diplomatic offensive on Kosovo’s issue.”

Thaci and Vucic will meet also in Brussels on Friday at the invitation of the
EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, who is facilitating the high level
dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

Over the weekend Vienna-based daily Der Standard reported on the plan of
Kosovo’s partition. According to Der Standard it was Germany that has prevented
Kosovo’s partition, a proposal supported by Serbs, as well as Kosovo side after
being “tired” of continuous problems with the Serb-inhabited northern part of
territory. A diplomat told the daily that secret talks between Kosovo and
Serbia made the officials in Berlin react and prevent the partition. But an
official told Der Standard that Thaci and Vucic might find other channels to
discuss the idea.
