Petritsch: Kosovo to make the first move and resume dialogue

Austrian diplomat Wolfgang Petritsch says it is necessary to revive
Pristina-Belgrade dialogue and reach a compromise solution.

Petritsch says the dialogue and compromise should be reached with the help of
the European Union, Moscow and Washington, if necessary. However, he said that
Pristina should make the first move on resumption of the EU-facilitated
dialogue with Belgrade. Petritsch who is former EU envoy on Kosovo, considers
that the 100 percent tax imposed by Kosovo Government on all Serbian goods is
not a way towards progress and gives no constructive contribution to the
dialogue in Brussels. “The tax should be stopped. I am for revoking it, which
is in accordance with the stance of the United States who are trying to
convince Pristina to suspend tax and resume the negotiations. This is
necessary, there can be no progress under a completely ambiguous situation. It
is necessary to reach a good solution and a compromise for the benefit of both
nations in Kosovo,” Petritsch said attending an activity on marking the 20th
anniversary of NATO’s air strikes against Serbia which was held Monday in
Belgrade. Petritsch said that presidents Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia and Hashim
Thaci of Kosovo are moving in that direction. “I hope for a successful
outcome,” the Austrian diplomat said.
