Here is something a little differnet I tried with my treatment of the text
from '05. In addition to going throgh the marriage service as recorded, I
tried to get the cong. to get the feeling of a wedding by speaking about the
parties involved etc.

TEXT: Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which
a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has
and buys that field.
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls,
who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he
had and bought it. Matthew 13:44-46
DEARLY BELOVED: We are assembled here in the presence of God and these
witnesses to join together this man and this woman in holy matrimony, which
was instituted by God for the welfare and happiness of mankind, blessed by
our Lord Jesus Christ, and likened by St. Paul to the mystical union
subsisting between Christ and His Church, and which is to be held in honor
among all men. Wherefore those who purpose to enter this holy estate should
do so with a profound sense of the seriousness of the obligations they are
about to assume, duly and devoutly weighing what Holy Scripture teaches
concerning husbands and wives, and bearing in mind that the vow and covenant
once made may not be broken. Our Savior has declared that a man shall
forsake his father and mother and cleave unto his wife, for they twain shall
be one flesh. By His Apostles He has instructed those who enter into wedlock
to cherish mutual esteem and love; to bear with each other's infirmities and
weaknesses; to comfort each other in sickness, trouble, and sorrow; in
honesty and industry to provide for each other and for their household in
temporal things; to pray for and encourage each other in the things which
pertain to God; and to live together as the heirs of the grace of life.
THESE TWO PERSONS have come hither to be made one in this holy estate. If
there be any here present who can show just cause why they may not lawfully
be joined in marriage, let him now speak or ever after hold his peace.
Forasmuch, then, as nothing has been shown to hinder this marriage, I ask
you:
N., wilt thou have N., here present, to be thy wedded wife, to live together
after God's ordinance in the holy estate of matrimony? Wilt thou love her,
comfort her, honor her, and keep her in sickness and in health, and,
forsaking all others, keep thee only unto her so long as ye both shall live?
I will.
N. wilt thou have N., here present, to be thy wedded husband, to live
together after God's ordinance in the holy estate of matrimony? Wilt thou
love him, comfort him, honor and obey him, and keep him in sickness and in
health, and, forsaking all others, keep thee only unto him so long as ye
both shall live? I will.
Then the Minister may say:
WHO GIVETH this woman to be married to this man?
Then the father gives the bride away and with his own right hand places the
bride's right hand into the right hand of the Minister. The minister
instructs the man with his right hand to take the woman by her right hand
and to say after him, as they face each other:
["All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the
Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and
the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." (Matt 11:27, NKJ)]
In the presence of God and this assembly, I take thee, my dearly beloved, to
be my wedded wife, / and plight thee my troth in every duty, / not to part
from thee / till death us do part.
Then shall the Minister with his right hand cause the woman with her right
hand to take the man by his right hand and shall likewise say after the
Minister:
I, in the presence of God and this assembly, I take thee, my dearly
beloved., to be my wedded husband, / and plight thee my troth in every duty,
/ not to part from thee / till death us do part.
Then the Minister shall now asks for the wedding ring and says:
IN TOKEN of your vows thus mutually plighted, you, dear groom, give, and
you, dear bride., receive the wedding ring.
Then the Minister, taking the ring with his right hand, shall deliver it to
the man, who shall then put it on the fourth finger of the woman's left
hand, and the Minister instructs the groom to say after him:
WITH THIS RING I thee wed, my dearly beloved bride.,/ in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
Then the Minister instructs the bride and groom to JOIN your right hands,
lasy his right hand upon their hands and says:
FORASMUCH as this man and woman have consented together in holy wedlock and
have witnessed the same before God and this assembly (these witnesses) (and
thereto have given and pledged their troth, each to the other), and have
declared the same (by giving and receiving a ring, and) by joining hands: I
pronounce them husband and wife in the name of the Father and of the Son and
of the Holy Ghost + . Amen.
What, therefore, God hath joined together let not man put asunder.
Then shall the persons married kneel for prayer, and the Minister shall say:
O ETERNAL GOD, Creator and Preserver of all mankind, Giver of all spiritual
grace, the Author of everlasting life: send Thy blessing upon these Thy
servants, this man and this woman, whom we bless in Thy name, that, living
faithfully together, they may surely perform and keep the vow and covenant
betwixt them made and may ever remain in perfect love and peace together,
and so live in this life according to Thy laws that in the world to come
they may have life everlasting; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
You have just witnessed a good old fashioned wedding. The way God meant it
to be. You don't see many like this anymore except maybe in a TV show or
movie about the olden days.
Why? Because this church is the dearly beloved bride of Christ. And every
Divine Service recalls her marriage to Him, and even betrothes others into
this most blessed relationship as more people are brought to faith by
hearing the Word there proclaimed and receiving the sacrament of Baptism
poured out in her presence.
[Go Back to beginning of the ceremony.]
You are treasure hidden in the field. You are the pearl of great price. Our
Lord sold everything He had when He gave His one and only Son to die for
you, that believing in Him YOU may never perish, but have everlasting life.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man
someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 5:7_8
Yes, you have been forever joined to God in the most holy of matrimonies - a
union made by God which no man can put asunder -- for you are baptized and
God forgives you all of your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son
and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
