After reviewing Dr. Bul's notes, I took a different direction for this Sunday's sermon. Below in part of my intro to Matthew 14:22-33, following preaching on the Feeding of the 5,000 last Sunday. Would you consider what I have below my signature as a proper direction? Pastor Doug Good Grace Lutheran Church Wellsville, MO What does this mean? First, Jesus doing as He did means He and His Church are not seek popularity with the people. Second, when tempted by such popularity, Jesus sending His 12 away abruptly shows us the temptation to do things that will make us popular is to be abruptly abandoned. And finally, Jesus saying earlier in Matthew this world of man will persecute and speak falsely about the Church on account of Him means the Church, like the boat on that lake filled with Jesus' disciples, will face the raging storm of Satan's attempt to sink it using this fallen world, yet has Jesus' promise He will keep Her safe unto eternal life.
