Here is the preaching mansucript.
TEXT: Mark 5:27-29; 41-42 27She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. 28For she said, "If I touch even his garments, I will be made well." 29And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.

. 41Taking her by the hand he said to her, "Talitha cumi," which means, "Little girl, I say to you, arise." 42And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement.

Dear People of God,

What would you do in the presence of God in the flesh?

I suppose how you answer that question depends upon what you think of God.

In our text today, we see how two people react.

Jairus comes to our Lord and begs Him to come and touch his dying daughter. 22Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet 23and implored him earnestly, saying, "My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live."

A dying woman comes to our Lord to but touch something that has touched Him.

27She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. 28For she said, "If I touch even his garments, I will be made well."

And, of course, remember the little children that were brought to Him:

Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." 15 And He laid His hands on them and departed from there. Matthew 19:13-15

Of course it is also a dangerous thing to touch or be touched by God.

 a.. Mt. Sinai
b.. The Ark of the Covenant
The Israelites built an idol for fear of what it meant to be too close to God, let alone touch Him.

I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10b

Jesus' became man to be in touch with those the Father had created in His image.

a.. His being conceived by the Holy Ghost
b.. His being born of the Virgin Mary
c.. His suffering under Pontius Pilate
d.. His dying by crucifixion on Calvary
e.. His being buried in Simon's tomb
f.. His being raised from the dead
 g.. His ascending into heaven
All these to be in touch with men-with YOU!

All the preaching and teaching of God's inspired Word is meant to draw you to be touched by the incarnate Christ-- this God in the flesh to dwell among you. For without touch there can be no healing, no salvation.

Like the woman who touched the robe of Christ and was healed, you touch the robe of Christ when you are baptized.

Like the little daughter at the point of death, you too are brought to be touched by Jesus at the font where he lays hands on you and bids you to rise to a new life in Him.

And in the Lord's Supper, you continue to touch and be touched by God in the flesh. For this is what He has come to do in His holy Christian Church, touch you and make you whole.

So what would you do in the presence of God in the flesh?

Given our sinfulness, and like Jesus' own disciples, our wavering faith, perhaps the better question is what would Jesus, the incarnate God in the flesh do if He were here in your presence?

He would suffer you little children to come to Him, He would lay His hands upon you, He would wrap His garment around you, He would tell you to arise, he would give your famished soul something to eat, and He would send you back out into your world to live like the forgiven, holy, eternal children He has raised you out of death into life to be-those who have received and now can share the saving touch of Christ--in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
