The J2EE Management Specification (aka JSR 77) uses events for management.
But I don't see anything in Chapter 6 (Performance Monitoring) to indicate
that the event mechanism is expected to be used for metric gathering. The
specification talk about the external side of the Stats and
StatisticsProvider interfaces.
