how does james know which mailrepository to use?

Hi all,
I need to create my own mail repository for James. I would appreciate
some hints about where to find the mechanism that James uses to find the
correct user store and the corresponding mail store in case more than
one are configured. Or it searches all of them?
Or my question is nonsense?
