So I guess I should thoroughly test it first. How did you learn that jvm .4.2 remedied
this? Was there a bug fix, or did you didn't observe any lockups anymore? Would there
be difference between Windows 1.4.2 and Linux 1.4.2?

Yes. I don't recall the performance difference, but I seem to recall that it was
significant. However, prior to JVM 1.4.2, there were problems that could cause a
lockup.
