Hi all,
been using JAMES for a while. Questions:
1) Bug?
I use news as mailing list backup:
news://vrspace.org/org.vrspace.dev
And it works nice.
But when I tried to use it as stand-alone news server, realized some articles never appear:
news://vrspace.org/org.vrspace.movie
Traced it: messages not ending with an empty line never download. This sounds like 'line number bug', supposedly fixed in 2.1.something IIRC.
(tested with mozillla and outlook)
So, what is it?
2) Search
I'm involved in a search engine: http://www.neurogrid.net/
The page sez it's bookmark sharing system; however, I intend to use it for news search too. To put it simple, it works with subject-predicate-object triplets:
<url> IS_RELATED_TO <keyword>
Applied to news, it's like
<news url> IS_RELATED_TO <msg subject>
<news url> CONTAINS <things from msg body>
etc.
As for impl, another mailet that will feed NG. (Right?)
But, it's not just search, it's reputation system. When I'm fed, it scores minus, when I request it, it scores plus. Applied to news, it means when I get the header/when I request the body. (It's not nntp but nnrp).
So, it's not a mailet, how do I write this?
Also, do you guys need search code?
3) UI
Well we have forums too: http://www.vrspace.org/forums/
Now, forums are much the same as newsgroups. I have body, I have subject... different UI. So I intend to integrate.
Best way seems web UI for JAMES.
Right? Comments, advices...?
BTW, been in mobile industry for a while. Did you know mobile operators use JAMES?
Well they don't:)
Neither did I, till I had a look at the code. Sure it's not smtp nor nntp but smpp or something, but routing etc is just about the same, custom mailets. Delivers mms and sms msgs in vast numbers... thought you might want to know:)
Regards...
