Mixing two issues.
1/ they don't need to be exposed anywhere if we spec them as locatable and
optional,
I could imagine a specialised mailet pipeline without a requirement for
stores or users.
The service locator mechanism must be clearly spec'ed so that all those
deployemnts which do
require them can reliably find them.
2/ The concepts must be specified in the API by a minimal interface so that
deployments are portable.
However implementations can be container specific.
I see providing straightforward simple implementations of things like this
for use as either example/refrence or as basic production components as
being the role of the (tentatively proposed) RI.
