Does the problem still exist? I was able to connect to 64.233.185.27:25
right now. Maybe you are behind a (corporate) firewall blocking SMTP but
allowing PING. Or the service experienced downtime at the time you tried.
A fast check can be performed using
telnet <IP> 25
which should give you the mail server greeting.
