argument still applies, but I still feel, what's e-mail without an address book? If it doesn't belong in its own server, where does it belong?

LDAP
Most clients already support this protocol.

And for the calendar functionality there is CalDAV
[ http://ietf.webdav.org/caldav/home.html ] Which
is still in draft phase, but nearing last call.
Bedework [ http://www.bedework.org/ ] and
Cosmo [ http://wiki.osafoundation.org/bin/view/Projects/CosmoDevelopmentHome ]
are two open source server implementations of
CalDAV under development. There are some commercial
products out there as well, I've used Oracle's in
testing.

My 2 cents, I don't think Mail Access Protocols
should be in the same binary as Mail Transfer
Protocols, much less Calendar/Scheduling/Address
book protocols etc.

I know it won't happen, but conceivably maybe
James may do better by forking the POP/IMAP code
and concentrating on the SMTP functionality?

Best regards,
Kervin
