I suspect we do. I interposed a context interface (the set of configurable options), which a JMX bean would create and set. Other 'bridging' schemes ultimately resolve down to creating implemntations of this by whatever means they choose. The JMX bean 'natively' knows how to modify the component configuration via the context interface.
