Unfortunately I guess that IMAP won't be included in next-minor or next-major, but we can only expect to be able to do some steps in that 2 releases (it would be *really* cool if we were able to put experimental unstable support for imap in next-major but this is not realistic to me).

Of course I can't forecast how much time we/I can invest in IMAP the next months, but I do hope there will be something. But I think that it is realistic, that it won't share its API with James from the beginning but provide Mail- or even MessageRepository wrappers for integration. (This is how it works at the moment) So it doesn't destabilize James or blocks releases but can be continuously integrated and easily tried out and tested by developers/users by just uncommenting/inserting some lines in config/assembly.xml. Well and sometimes users find the product usable while the developer still considers it as experimental.
