Nevermind, I was not aware that Stefano and you are more or less on your own
recently (looking at svn log).
stefano and i have been looking at this but i should have made time to
ensure that the spring deployment was fixed up after those changes

there are plans to restructure the deployment modules so that code is
more easily reused and to create some smoke tests to ensure that the
built artifacts start and serve as expected but that may take some
time...
+1, I'll try to free some time to actively support this.

we were talking about creating another layer for the avalon stuff
common to both the pheonix and spring builds

+1

for the smoke test, i had in mind booting up the finished artifacts
and running script based protocol tests against them for the supported
protocols (similar to the test scripts used by IMAP). i would prefer
to test the default configuration but this would require root access.

and it would not work on machines with an already running regular mail server. for the spring deployment this probably could be handled by setting a command line property, activating the port remapper. for phoenix - I don't know.
